Are you planning a trip to Cumbria, England? Do you already know how many countless destinations you can go to? Are you going there to see the beauty of Lake District National Park? Then, you are so right with your decision. I bet you are going to have a blast out there.

Cumbria is the seat of splendid lakes and mountains. Lake District has the most tourist influx all year long with rich heritage, vibrant scenery and delectable wine and food. Any tourist would surely enjoy the place and its people.

One small town on the coast of Cumbria is whitehaven. It lies between the two settlements of Carlisle and Barrow-in Furness, just outside the Lake District National Park. Whitehaven is home to rugby leaguers, the RFC. The maritime festival which happens every two years and started in 2007 attracted 350,000 tourists to this very small but incredible town.

Because of its small land area, Whitehaven do not have long rows of hotels. This Georgian town on the west coast of Cumbria has a nice harbor that has been part of the reason it became one of the 40 Gem Towns of Cumbria.

There are lake district cottages along Whitehaven. These are self-catering cottages that are appealing to the budget. There is one cottage that is built in 18th century named Randle How situated in the heart of Esk Valley on the western side of the park.  Eskdale is one of the virgin valleys of Cumbria with a nice clear river running down on it.

Another  pride of line of lake district cottages is a 19th century old mid-terrace cottage situated at the foot of Knock Fell. Folly Holiday Cottage is fully furnished with high standard equipments that can accommodate 4 persons per unit. Just outside the cottage, one can walk up to the panoramic views of Ennerdale and Loweswater. Activities like fishing and cycling are ideal in this place. The cottage is also a good 8 mile walk from market towns and coastal roads.

Near Cockermouth which by the way is another Gem Town of Cumbria is where Garden Cottage is located. It is an 18th century barn converted to single dwelling which overlooks the Pardshaw Crag, the main attraction of this place. This tiny hamlet has great views of Solway Plains, Dumfries and Galloway hills and even extending up to the coast of Southern Scotland.

Still in Cockermouth is the John Dalton Cottage, a 17th century abode where Atomic Theory discoverer John Dalton first saw the ray of light. This small cottage beams of rich history and character of this famous person, a readily given bonus for every guest.

What’s good with living in a small cottage is that you know it is well maintained by the family running it. Aside from the cozy feel of the cottage, there is sense of belongingness as it is just like a home away from home with the extra comfort of not cleaning and minding the lawn.

Now, have you decided where to stay now? If so, don’t hesitate to book right away as you might not be able to get available cottages as Lake District is the most visited place in Cumbria, England. Believe me; you will have the time of your life there!
